Biography

Fabian Edlund has worked with IP for over 25 years. His practice is focused on European and international patent prosecution, but also includes providing strategic advice.

As an engineer, Fabian takes pride in his curiosity and will not rest until he understands the underlying technology of any invention. He is dedicated to his work and clients, and strives to be accessible and responsive. As a result, Fabian builds and maintains strong personal relationships with all his clients.

Fabian works mainly in electronics and computer technology, with particular experience in audio processing, power conversion, radar ranging, eye tracking, surgical simulation, and Internet-related inventions. However, he also has clients in more mechanical areas, such as solar roof construction, flow control valves, cargo securing equipment, and vehicle couplings.

Fabian’s clients range from small start-up companies to large international corporations. For the smaller, domestic clients, Fabian will typically serve as their strategic IP advisor to help them improve their business with the support of IP. But he will also be directly involved in drafting their patent applications and prosecuting these applications internationally.

For international clients, Fabian is an appreciated expert on European patent prosecution. The international clients include IP law firms outside Europe and companies with large European patent portfolios. Fabian also has significant experience in coordinating high volume patent drafting by leading teams of patent attorneys selected for a specific client.

Fabian has held numerous lectures in the US, Japan and Sweden on the topic of European practice and the patenting of software inventions in Europe. He has served as moderator of a panel on the subject of “Patents and AI” at an international IP conference in London.

Fabian is deeply involved in UNION-IP, an association of European practitioners in IP, where he served as President in 2020–2023. He is a member of the UNION-IP Software Commission.
